The Sickness of Sin

Sin and sickness are very similar. They are, at their core, invisible and unseen. It take close scrutiny, training and special processes with tools to properly identify. But when they manifest into the visible they are obvious. No doubt about it...there is an issue here.

The most insidious thing about both of them is that the one infected usually doesn’t know it until after they are already contagious. By then, they have infected numerous others. It’s not until the infection manifests to a point that it disrupts the normal flow of living that the infected one takes notice and makes moves to heal themselves.

There is another issue that may be even more ugly than the infection itself is that the one infected, even after learning of the infection, still goes out into population and has moved from innocently infecting to knowingly exposing people to possible infection. Allegiance to their job, or just the money it brings, moves people to expose, and possibly infect their coworkers! Now sickness has joined itself with sin in unlove.

So that is sickness, a malady of flesh and blood. But then there is sin, the sickness of spirit. For years and years people are unaware of the infection. Every baby is born into it. From Adam to you, the infection is present. Selfishness, the disease of separation from God and everyone else. The addiction to self-satisfaction at the expense of others and the rejection of God. For some, the infection is not realized. For others, it is not recognized. But the effects of the infection manifest throughout the world. War, pollution, and murder. Physical, mental and sexual abuse. Prejudice, lies and deception. All cases of unlove.

As time goes on, there are many who recognize that there is something wrong and look for a solution. They get educations, get jobs and careers, they start families, buy and build homes, amass wealth and fame. They enter into politics, science and law. Leveraging all of these things to “get better”. They even find religion. But they can’t find a cure. They still operate selfishly and unlovingly. Never getting better and continuing to infect those around them.

So the questions are these:

-do we recognize that the world is sick?

-are we sick?

-do we want to be healed?

-do we want the world to be healed?

-do we really know what love is?

Then be a difference-maker! Then find Jesus :) Find Him in the midst of all the pain and sickness of this broken world. In your personal lives, your families, jobs, careers. In politics, religion, science and law. The medicine for every sin in every arena. Start on the path of healing for yourselves and for others. Learning of God, reading the Bible and Christian literature, listening to Christian teachers, gathering together with like-minded believers. The effects of sin begin to diminish as the work of Christ rises in you and the impact of that has an effect internally and externally. This healing is also called sanctification. Learning how to love perfectly. Learning of God, Who is love. Receiving salvation, the ultimate healing in Christ Who sacrificed Himself in love. And the fruit of Holy Spirit which is love.

Join me as I follow Christ. He is the beginning of a new life and the end of a sick one. Because at the end of the day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. All will know what healed looks like and if they have it or not. Don’t die of your illness, there is everlasting healing.

Revelation 21:1-8 (KJV)

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Confession and Relationship

This is an interesting connection. Confession is really a form of communication. But this particular form has elements of transparency,...
