Our Purpose (why we exist)

We are created. That Creator is God. (If you cannot start at that place, I’m not sure that the idea of purpose really applies.) Our God is not a selfish, accidental or frivolous God. He has reason and purpose for everything that He does. To think that God would do something He doesn’t like or want to seems illogical. However, to think that God does what He loves to do makes way more sense. He is love and loves perfectly. Therefore, humanity is loved and has purpose. The purpose of humanity was to never to be separated from God, but to be forever with Him in love. Love is the Glory of God. But that’s not the way it is.....

Humanity, in the image of its Creator, strikes out on its own to create for itself that which it cannot create. To find loving relationship in things other than God. But instead, it finds itself at odds with all things. Frustrated at every turn. Peace and love, right relationship with one another, joy and goodness are things longed for but not attained. Rather furious activity and earthly creativity abound with the intent to provide those things, but only fail in time. Anger and hurt. Division and struggle. Everything falling into decay over time and ultimately to destruction and death. All because humanity, the created, tries to achieve that which only The Creator can. Life and love. Life is more than moving and breathing. It is a complex motion of relationship. It is love. Not a love that perishes and ends. But every human perishes and ends.....

So that is not our purpose. Our purpose is to be with God, to experience His great and glorious love.....forever. To be in a loving relationship with our Creator as He pours out infinite love. To enjoy Him as He enjoys us enjoying Him....forever. To love Him as He loves us and to love all His creation....forever. To never die or know death, rather to live....forever.

Why would the eternal God, with infinite ability, create anything that does not reflect His creative, eternal and infinite ability? So how is it that humanity dies? How is it that all things that humanity now knows has a lifespan, a timeline and a date of expiration? Well, somehow, some way, humanity thought that it had the ability to live outside of God’s love and decided not to live in its purpose to be with God. The result of that decision introduces the concept of death. Death is an infinite reality that exists without God in it. An eternal uncreation. An infinite unlife.

So God, in His most glorious manifestation of love, reaches out from heaven into humanity to recover that which has lost its way. He steps out of His infinite glory and enters into the very humanity He created. He came down from His heaven and became human. Amazing! His Name is Jesus. Long before He entered into the human existence, He spoke through and to people about a Savior that was to come and redeem His people. He named His Name, told what town He was to be born in, told about His ministry and how He would die. This Jesus, this Savior, would conquer death and rise up alive. Proclaiming and promising that anyone who would believe in Him, that He is the Risen Savior sent by God, is in fact God, would no longer die, but have eternal life in the presence of God Himself.

This brings us to our two-fold purpose. (1) To be personally redeemed so that we can live with God now and forever, and (2) to show others the same thing so that they too can be redeemed and have that same life.
