Eternity/Infinity

The concepts of eternity or infinity are difficult to get your head around. They are generally applied to principals and however, there is an example that is almost tangible in numbers. The specific example is the number line. It infinitely moves in one direction or an opposing one. Generally considered positive and negative.

Anger, war, hate, sorrow, murder, theft, lying, selfishness.

Would you consider these things negative? But, you see them every day. You even experience some of them in your own life.

Love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, patience, trustworthiness, humility and self-control.

Would you consider these things positive?

I bet you do. And even enjoy them when they are directed at you. And when they actually come from you onto others, a strange sense of satisfaction touches you.

Gal 5:13- 18 For ye, brethren, were called for freedom; only use not your freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through love be servants one to another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Crazy thing, there are a lot of laws against the negatives but there are none against the positives. Crazy huh?!

You have heard it said before that your life is a number line. Starting at zero and ending at some point thereafter. So how would you like to invest on your number line? To the negatives or the positives?

Think of your life as a battlefield with opposing armies encamped in it. You have the power, as the battlefield, to lend your landscape to one or the other. At the end of the day, the battlefield is taken by the army with the tactical advantage, the high ground. To which army have you given the advantage? The positive or the negative? The high ground is your investment.

Now let’s look at the return on that investment. To the investor who invested with the positives, abundant and eternal life. A life infinitely progressing with a more and more positive result. Infinitely. Without end. Never stopping, ever increasing.

But then there is the negative investor, the payoff is everlasting loss and eternal death. Diminishing with a more and more negative result. Infinitely. Without end. Never stopping, ever decreasing.

Sound pretty rough doesn’t it? You know I’m describing heaven and hell. The armies on the battlefield of your life are The Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost against satan. The Great Positive against the dark negative. Battling for possession of the ground, your ground, you. Who do you really want to win?

Imagine the value of your life described by that number line. You would expect it to start at zero....but not so! At the fall of Adam, you dropped to a very negative number. Infinitely negative. So now, just to get back to zero, you have a lot of work to do. It looks formidable, maybe impossible! But you can try. So that’s what you do. But try as you like, there always seems to be more to do. Things to learn, things to accomplish, places to go, things to have, things to be. Always more and never enough. Somehow, some way, at the end, it’s just not enough. The satisfaction is fleeting. It’s good for a minute, but then the hollowness, the pain, the hunger starts again. Everything is temporary. It just doesn’t last. Unhappiness turning to hopelessness. Anger, pain, meanness, unlawfulness is all around. You even see it in your own life. Negative actions and thoughts. Just get me to zero and I will feel like I have a fighting chance! Isn’t there a better way?

Yes! There is! There is a Satisfier, a Fixer of everything broken, for the sick at heart, there is a Healer. One Who can restart the number line. Jesus Christ is His Name. Does He fix the day-to-day living in a broken world? No, but He comes into you, restarts your number line and sends His Holy Spirit to live in you. He gives you hope and promise. He gives you value. You are no longer a negative, you are now a positive! You have value! Not only did you make zero, but you went beyond.

Infinitely beyond.

Christ has invested His life for yours. Receive His positive investment and be saved from the negative. Not only do you get a new nature, a new number, you get help. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you. With the Holy Spirit, true love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, trustworthiness, humility and self-control begin to manifest and you find there is no law against you.

This is the answer to prayer, “let it be done, on earth as it is in heaven”. The close relationship of God to man restored. His Spirit dwelling in and pouring out. In Christ, unified once again from the fall that separated. A new creature.

Galatians 5:22 & 23 (ESV)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law

However, if you choose not to accept and there is no positive investment. You will be stuck in your negative state and even the laws will be against you.

Choose this day who you will serve.....

Deuteronomy 30:15 (ESV)

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.

16 in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it.

17 But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

18 I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days in the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

Deuteronomy 30:19 (ESV)

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.

This is the day the Lord has made! There is none more important than this one. Jesus teaches us to pray, Oh Father!, Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
