The power of the tongue is the medium of fellowship and influence on others. Andrew Murray
Genesis 1:1-3 (KJV) 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
John 1:1-5 (KJV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
The Word was before the tongue existed. The Word created all things. Its manifestation is all around. It is both visible and invisible. Before there was light, the darkness could hear. Its desire was and is to live and be. To see and voice of the glory of living. When it heard the Word of Light, it responded to be. It turned from the hiddenness, the not being of the darkness and entered into being and being seen in the light. This is the case with humanity. It desires to live and be. Not just to exist, but to have purpose and impact. The ear was formed to hear and listen to the Word that is first spoken by the Creator. That the created could hear and speak, to converse with the Creator. Formed to be an entrance, a breaking of the ground of the mind for the planting of the Seed and intention of the Word. The tongue was formed so that the creation could have an intelligent voice and be able to speak with its Creator. To tell all of creation of the glory of the Creator. The Word ever speaks from heaven to reveal the intentions of His will. The mind was created that the created would know the intentions of His will. To be a fertile ground of growing for the manifestation of the Word. The eye was created to see the glory of the Creator in the created. To confirm the Word heard and planted in the mind. Remember, the Creator always speaks. His Word is everlasting and eternal. It never fails to be, to go forth, having intention and purpose. It does not stop. The heart is created to supply a flow, giving the body life so that the Word would be made flesh and dwell in the creation it created. The hands and feet are created to go and do the work and purpose of the Word in the creation. The Word made flesh, active and working with intention in the creation. Then there is the soul. Only found in the creation called humanity. Not visibly seen as an entity or attribute of flesh, but as an invisible driver of the flesh. The resting place of the spirit of man. The will that drives all aspects of his living and intention. The seat of decision in man bearing the fruit of the seed planted and growing in his mind. But the seed does not have to grow. If a seed never receives enough water, it will never germinate. It will not put down root and grow. Without belief in and conversation with the Creator, humanity will never realize its origin and purpose. This is the water for the Seed. Its life. The Word. Conversation from the Creator to the created. God’s Word. Because the created does not listen for or acknowledge its Creator, the Seed of life remains unwatered. Uncreated and in the dark. Unseen and unknown. Buried. Hopelessly hopeless. Dead. The Word “Let there be light” never shines upon it.
All that to say, humanity has been given great power in the tongue. Power to bless and curse. To speak life or death. We are created to be in conversation and relationship with our Creator. All conversation is in His Word. The first conversation and foundation of all that is said and ever to be said. The revelation and reality of His life in and through us. Love. Without that conversation is only silence. Therefore, humanity is purposed and blessed to speak with one another. To converse in relationship or divide in silence and separation. To speak life in love yet with the power to speak death in hate. To turn to one another or away. So choose this day what you will serve, what you will say. Life or death, blessing or curse. If the Word dwells richly in you, you will speak light and life. Turn to God. If you choose to turn away from Him, the only choice left is darkness and death. Darkness does not speak.
Matthew 5:13-16 (KJV) 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
