The idea of running a competition of completion, not just winning. Looking at this in a spiritual way, this race is run before a great cloud of witnesses, both in heaven and on earth. There has already been a winner, a first placer. Christ has run the race and completed the course. But the race runs on and we are all in it.

.....what matters is finishing the race, but if you don’t stay the course, that cannot happen. Do well and patiently push to the finish. A great cloud of witnesses are watching and those you love are in the front row.
